1980 - I initially created the character and wrote the script for a graphic novel (116 pages); however, finding it impossible to fully develop the long-haired *mestizo’s* personality and sarcasm within a long-running comic book series, I transformed the project into the *GRINGO*© Western literary tetralogy (1224 pages)—thereby achieving the goal I had envisioned from the very start!

1980 - Inizialmente ho creato il personaggio e scritto la sceneggiatura per una graphic novel (116 pagine); tuttavia, ritenendo impossibile sviluppare appieno la personalità e il sarcasmo del *mestizo* dai capelli lunghi nell'ambito di una serie a fumetti di lunga durata, ho trasformato il progetto nella tetralogia letteraria western *GRINGO*© (1224 pagine), realizzando così l'obiettivo che mi ero prefissato fin dall'inizio!

Wilson Vieira, born in São Paulo, is best known for his work for the Italian comics market during the 1970s.
He settled in Italy in 1973, where he continued his studies in history and archaeology, and where he commenced an education at the Lorenzo de Medici Art Institute in Florence.
He did his first comics work through the Staff di IF ("Immagini e Fumetti") in Genova.
He contributed to several Italian and foreign publishers, making stories with 'La Furia del West', 'L'Uomo-Ragno', 'FF Quattro', 'Tarzan', 'Diabolik', 'Hondo', 'Davy Crockett', 'El Tigre', 'Il Corsaro Nero', 'Jack', 'Coyote' and many other characters...

This year the festival will also be competitive, and the best in the categories of young comic artists, illustrator, comic strip writer and theoretician in the Balkans will receive plaques with the image of Nikola Mitrovic Kokan. Also, the second best in all four categories will also be awarded with Diplomas... There will be a Diploma for the best rookie, and there will also be an award for the contribution to the Serbian comic, whose winner will be the president of the three-member jury awarding the other prizes. The received works will be presented in the Gallery of Leskovac Cultural Center and their authors will receive Certificate of gratitude for participation in the festival as well as the mention in the catalog that each participant will receive. As part of the event which will last three days, there will be several lectures, public class drawing in the lobby of the Leskovac Cultural Center, projections of animated films and documentaries, the promotion of several comic magazine (from the country and from abroad) and a book on comic books, as well as panel discussions, public interviews and round tables.

As for the propositions for participating in the competition, they are as follows: the term young author means those authors under thirty years of age, and all who meet this basic requirement are free to present their works to the jury in any of the four categories. The older authors may also exhibit their works, and they are indeed invited to do so in order to set the example for the younger artists, but they will not enter the competition for awards. ). Award-wise, only Balkan-based authors can compete, but anyone from around the world can be part of the exhibit (on the Eighteenth Balkans festival of young comics creators in 2016, for example, authors from 41 countries from six continents had their works on display). In the category of illustration you can apply illustrations in color and black and white illustrations alsike. The comic scenarios and theoretical texts should be submitted typed. One can also submit a finished and completed comic that is based on a scenario. The pages doesn`t have to be from a complete comic, and one can participate with as many works as one likes. Also, the work(s) you are submitting does not have to be done specifically for our festival or done during last year. It is only important that it has not been exhibited in The Balkans festival of young comics creators before. Note: It is important to clearly state one`s age so as to avoid all possible misunderstandings.

This notification is therefore a call for participation to all young comics authors, comic schools and comics workshops operating in the Balkans; Leskovac school of comics will do our best to be the best possible host for all guests.

Entrevista: Wilson Vieira

Wilson Vieira é um batalhador (venceu no exterior como desenhista de Histórias em Quadrinhos mas é pouco conhecido aqui no Brasil) corajoso (deixou tudo aqui para morar sozinho na Itália e depois, de volta ao Brasil, deixou o trabalho de desenhista e professor para se dedicar somente aos roteiros). Ele mesmo mandou um e-mail para o site SoBReCarGa procurando divulgar Cangaceiros - Homens de Couro, que me foi repassado. Imediatamente interessei-me pelo seu trabalho e lhe escrevi. Wilson me respondeu prontamente e combinamos uma entrevista. O resultado do nosso papo você pode conferir a seguir.

Eloyr Pacheco - Como foi que você decidiu ir para a Itália e acabou trabalhando com personagens como Diabolik, Tarzan e Homem-Aranha?

Wilson Vieira - Decidi ir para lá, estudar inicialmente História/Arqueologia, mas acabei, por inúmeros motivos, estudando Artes. Quanto aos personagens citados, foi uma simples conseqüência de trabalhos que me foram propostos pelo Staff di If. Desenhava-se o que caía nas mãos: super-herói, western, aventura, terror, ficção, etc...

Como você encarava a produção de gêneros tão distintos? Você trabalhava com mais de um estilo de arte?

Encarava com muita naturalidade, pois fomos muito bem treinados para isso; fazer estilos diferentes nos dava até um sopro novo de criatividade. Sim trabalhava, não só eu, mas todos os artistas do Staff di If, que era conhecido por sua versatilidade e competência. Só para o conhecimento de todos, eu nunca fiquei sem um dia de trabalho durante os anos que lá desenhei. Trabalhávamos com total liberdade, respeitando sempre a data de entrega dos trabalhos.

Eu gostaria de saber um pouco mais sobre a série western Gringo; os desenhos me chamaram a atenção. As histórias do personagem ficaram inéditas?

Bem, do Gringo só foi desenhada a primeira história (75 páginas) e feito, também, uma animação para a apresentação do mesmo às editoras. Sim, ambos são inéditos. Gringo, agora transformou-se no projeto Gash com 16 histórias, que já escrevi e estou vertendo para a língua Italiana. O personagem terá a sua representação gráfica baseada na imagem de um ator ítalo-brasileiro; Gash adora o café brasileiro e não faz o gênero de herói... pois é uma cria da Guerra Civil Americana... confio muito nessa série, é uma proposta de western séria e diferente dos demais já publicados.

Ator Ítalo-brasileiro... (Hã?!) Você não pode dizer quem é? Você vendeu o projeto de Gringo(hoje Gash), para a Itália?

Claro que posso... é o Antony Steffen... o nosso Antonio de Teffe, ele fez vários spaghetti-western, sua figura lembra muito o Clint Eastwood, só que numa versão mais bruta. Não, o projeto Gash não foi vendido ainda, espero com muita ansiedade que um bom desenhista brasileiro encare esse desafio comigo, em parceria, ou seja fazer um trabalho digno de exportação, se não, aí sim, tentarei um desenhista italiano... o que seria um pecado, pois temos talento de sobra para realizarmos esse projeto. Agora é só esperar, para ver! 

Contar a história de Lampião em vinte volumes é realmente um grande desfio. Como é o projeto Homens de Couro? Todos os volumes estão desenhados?

Cangaceiros - Homens de Couro, é um projeto para 20 ou mais volumes, já escrevi 4 histórias (fechadas) e estamos na dependência dos resultados comerciais do primeiro volume, para prosseguirmos com o projeto e com desenhistas diversos.

Optar por deixar de desenhar para se dedicar somente aos roteiros é uma decisão difícil. Entendo que o trabalho de pesquisa para o Cangaceiros deve ter tomado muito do seu tempo e da sua energia, o que deve tê-lo levado a essa decisão. Valeu a pena?

Com o tempo como desenhista, tive (óbvio) que ilustrar propostas de vários roteiristas. Pouco a pouco, fui sentindo a necessidade de criar meus próprios personagens, de ter um envolvimento maior com as histórias, pesquisar linguagens, ambientes diversos, diferentes épocas com seus usos e costumes. Isso me interessou muito mais... daí a escolha. E não foi nada difícil não, mas sim, muito prazeroso... puxa, se valeu a pena e como!

Como surgiu a sua parceria com o CLUQ - Clube dos Quadrinhos?

A parceria duradoura com o CLUQ, surgiu no final dos anos 1980, quando conheci seu editor, o jornalista Wagner Augusto, portanto é um "casamento" com mais de 20 anos de convivência... daí surgiu a publicação do Cangaceiros, minhas traduções de Ken Parker e espero que continue assim... pois temos a mesma afinidade de idéias, valores e visão de mundo, sob a ótica das HQS.
